H2 breath test
H2 BREATH TEST:
The H2 breath test is performed for the investigation of patients with digestive disorders such as bloating, diarrhea and nausea. Certainly, these symptoms can cause heart problems, for example cardiac arrhythmias.
The breath test can provide information on disorders of the digestion of food components in the gut. In the cleavage of carbohydrates in the intestine arises hydrogen (H2). The concentration of the hydrogen is measured via the exhaled air. Depending on function or intolerance, a certain sugar (lactose, glucose, fructose, lactulose, sucrose or xylose) (lactose, glucose, fructose, lactulose, sucrose or xylose) is given.
The H2 breath test is not stressful for the patient, so that the breath test is also performed in children. Active participation of the patient is required to obtain meaningful values.
Preparation and implementation:
- Fasting, do not smoke on the day of examinatio , no teeth brushing
- Determination of a fasting value
- Drinking liquid sugar test
- Measuring the concentration of hydrogen every 30 minutes
